Miss. abortion clinic closes early to avoid anti-abortion ...

When protesters from Operation Save America and other anti-abortion groups began showing up to demonstrate at Mississippis only abortion clinic in Jackson at 7:15 a.m. today, they faced an empty parking lot because the facility had already conducted its business for the day. The clinic is over for the day, said McCoy Faulkner, security consultant for the Jackson Womens Health Organization on State Street. The clinic opened early to avert any potential confrontations from anti-abortion activists who began their eight-day protest in Jackson today. Still, some 60 people stood behind police barricades set up on the sidewalk outside the clinic, many holding 5-foot-tall signs featuring gruesome pictures of aborted fetuses. About 10 pro-choice advocates from national political groups also showed up at the clinic to observe the anti-abortion protesters.
